Yardling Booters Tie Yalie Team

The Harvard and Yale freshman soccer teams displayed individual strength and fine teamwork but lacked the all-important scoring punch as they battled to a 2-2 tie yesterday.

The Yardlings controlled the ball during most of the game, though they were unable to force across the winning score, a handicap which contributed to their two other losses of the season.

The contest was hardly a dull one, though. Time and again the Crimson forwards blasted away at the Yale goal as halfbacks Fred Akuffo and Chuck Okigwe fed them the ball and fullback John Stevens cleared on defense. Sometimes the pressing paid off. In the first period Keith Chiappa blasted a goal from ten yards out, and in the third quarter Dave Taft found the nets on another good shot.

The two Eli scores came on less exciting plays, one on a penalty shot that the goalie missed and the other on a sharp blast by Yalie captain Joe Upton. But the Eli defense was tight enough to make the game exciting and to gain the final tie score.
