A chapter of the John Birch Society may be formed at Harvard next spring.
Phillip Langan, New England coordinator of the Birchers' magizine, "American Opinion," announced yesterday that the Society sent letters asking 16 Harvard students to consider beginning a division of J.B.S. at the University. These students either belong to the Society already or have expressed interest in joining it.
Prominent members of the Society, possibly including Robert Welch, the founder, will meet with the students in January to explain the purpose and functions of the proposed chapter. If the students display enough interest in working for the Birchers' cause J.B.S. will go ahead with plans for the local chapter.
Langan said that the chapter would meet monthly to discuss the past month's Society bulletin and to plan the chapter's distribution of information for the following month.
