Eliot Battles Leverett For Football Lead

Although Dunster scared league-leading Leverett in the highlight of last week's action, the House Football League is rapidly turning into a two-team runaway. Both Leverett and Eliot picked up two wins during the week to remain far ahead of the scrambling pack.

Leverett, now sporting a 5-0 record, edged by Dunster 16-3 on Thursday, after its quarterback left the game with a head injury during the first five minutes. The winning touchdown was scored in the final period, when a Leverett end alertly picked off a Dunster lateral and ran all the way for a T.D.

The Bunnies also beat Quincy 28-0, and now are pointing toward their Nov. 14 showdown with Eliot, which remained in second place with a 4-0 record. Eliot had an extremely easy week, thrashing Lowell 27-0 and winning 6-0 when Quincy forfeited on Thursday. The Elephants' victory over Lowell was featured by several long touchdown runs and the hard driving of their halfback Andy Shea.

In the week's most exciting game, Lowell recovered from this trouncing to upset Winthrop on Thursday, 13-8. The Bellboys, with a surprising 2-2-1 record, edged into fourth place. Winthrop reached the Lowell two-yard line with seconds remaining in the game, but the gun sounded before they could push across what would have been the winning score.

Strong Defensive Line

Lowell will have another tough game today as they face Adams, currently tied for fifth place with a 2-2 record. Dudley forfeited to Adams last Thursday, but missed the work it needs on its unique "lonesome end" offense. They have shown a strong defensive line throughout the season, but are still looking for some halfbacks to bolster their running attack.

In the other crucial game scheduled for this week, Kirkland, last year's champions, will face Leverett, hungry for this year's title. Kirkland has moved into third place with a 2-1-1 record, but it has to beat Leverett if it hopes to repeat this season. The Deacons, although they easily beat Dunster, 14-0, last week, have only four starters back from last year, and have not been impressive in their first four games.

To complete this week's schedule, Dunster will try to pull an upset in its game with Eliot today. The Funsters are now tied with Adams for fifth place and seem much stronger than the team which finished seventh last year. Despite their strength, however, they should be no match for Eliot's mammoth line.

Winthrop and Quincy, in seventh and eighth places, will meet on Thursday in the only non-crucial game scheduled. Dudley, with an 0-5 record, draws a bye during the week. The Dragons seem to be the only weak team in what Floyd S. Wilson, director of intramural athletics, calls "a much stronger league than last year."
