Roscoe Pound Enjoys 92nd Birthday Fete

Roscoe Pound, dean emeritus of the Harvard Law School, celebrated his 92nd birthday Saturday at a party in his honor at the Simpson House in Newton.

Thomas C. Clark, associate justice of the United States Supreme Court, was guest speaker at the luncheon party, which was attended by many of the area's prominent legal figures. Clark praised Pound's contributions to American law, and said that legal theories Pound advocated 40 years ago are just beginning to be put into practice.

Among the many gifts presented to Pound was a book filled with congratulatory messages from all parts of the world. Pound also received a portrait of himself by Patricia Tate, which shows him wearing his favorite green visor.

Pound first came to Harvard at the age of 18. After a year as a Law student, he returned to his home in Nebraska. Pound became a member of the law faculty in 1913. Three years later, he was appointed dean of the Law School, a position which he held for 20 years.
