Reserve Books at 'Cliffe Now Available to College

Through the use of the new plastic bursar's cards, Harvard students for the first time will be able to check reserve books out of the Radcliffe library over night. The new cards, which have been issued to both Harvard and Radcliffe students, now serve as library cards in Lamont, Widener, and the Radcliffe library.

Ruth K. Porritt, Radcliffe librarian, said, "We aren't so stupid that we didn't know girls were checking out reserve books for their boy friends." She explained that the entire procedure was "legalized" so the library knows where the books are at all times. In the past, boys have failed to return reserve books borrowed by 'Cliffie friends on time, causing acute discomfort for their 'Cliffie friends.

As in past years, Harvard students may continue to use reserve books in the library during the day.

Excessive Borrowing Not Expected

The library does not anticipate a substantial amount of additional borrowing. However, Miss Porritt said if there is a "run on the library and girls lose books to boys," limited reserve lending would again be considered.

The Radcliffe Government Association voted several weeks ago to reinstate limited reserve lending if the measure becomes necessary to insure Radcliffe books for the college's girls.
