Students Protest Music at Dinner

Quincy House students reacted strongly last night to the introduction of piped-in music at dinner. The trial program of music, approved by the House committee, consisted of an album entitled "50 Great Moments in Music," and included excerpts from Tchaikovsky's Symphony #6, Sibelius' Finlandia, Beethoven's Emperor Concerto, Offenbach's Parisienne, and Chubby Checker's Let's Twist Again.

Petition requesting the House committee "to stop piping that confounded music into the dining hall" was quickly posted and had drawn 25 signatures by 7 p.m.

Amberg '64, chairman of the Quincy social committee, who suggested the innovation, admitted that a number of students were opposed to music at mealtime, but said, "I think most of them are for it." Amberg added that no decision to continue the music would be made until Monday, when the House committee meets. At least one more trial session, probably Friday or Saturday, will be necessary, Amberg indicated.
