To the Editors of the CRIMSON:
I don' think that Christopher Hobson's unfair attack on the right wind in the December 20 CRIMSON should go unanswered.
If Mr. Hobson will look closely, he will find that the right wing is just as concerned about the possible erosion of civil freedoms and social ideals as he is. The are not interested in and do not support defense policies a the expense of liberty, social justice, and "whatever else is good and worth struggling for," as Mr. Hobson charges. They simply believe that these goals can be better achieved through an aggressive foreign policy abroad and tight security measures at home than through policies such as Mr. Hobson advocates.
The right wing at Harvard, and with minor exceptions across the country, is calm, intelligent, and manure, motivated by the deepest concern for the protection of our traditional values. Mr. Hobson's tactic of impugning the motives of those who disagree with him is, on the contrary unintelligent and immature. Political discussion is most worthwhile when it is conducted on rational grounds. Alan E. Povey '63
