Baseball Squad Will Face Yale In Final Eastern League Game

The varsity baseball team takes on Yale tomorrow in the final game of the Eastern League season at 3 p.m. on Soldiers Field. The contest is the Crimson's last game until after exam period.

Fresh from its heartening 5-6 victory over Dartmouth Wednesday, the Crimson will be going for its third victory in GBL competition. Harvard has lost three games against Eastern League opponents, and can boast of only two wins as opposed to three loses. Three of the nine scheduled games were called off because of rain. They were against Army, Renn, and Brown.

Overall, Harvard has a 10-9 record including the impressive 26-2 victory over Brandeis last week. That victory gave the Crimson second place in the Greater Boston League standings with a 4-2 mark.

Coach Norm Shepard's nine will fare well tomorrow if it continues to have some of the impressive hitting and pitching performances which it enjoyed at the latter part of the game Wednesday.

Al Yarbro and Tom Boone collaborated successfully on the mound against the Indians and could be called on for help tomorrow. Other pitchers ready for action and at the top of Shepard's list are Roy Williams and Dick Garibaldi, especially impressive recently.

Good Hitting

Charlie Ravenol, Captain Al Martin, and Dick Diehi came through especially well with some timely hitting Wednesday. They were instrumental in the Crimson's explosive 5-run first inning.

Others who have turned in much help at the plate are Mike Drummey, Phil Bernstein, Dick Shima, Dave Morse, and Bill Rodgers. Led by Martin, these six were all well over .300 this week.

Shima, centerfielder, and Boone, a southpaw, were chosen on the GBL allstar squad next week.

Harvard will conclude its season with a game against Amherst at Amherst on June 10, and two games against Yale on the 14th and the 17th. Only one of these three games--on June 14th--will be in Cambridge.

Among the victims of the Crimson this year have been Princeton, Tufts, B.U., and M.I.T.
