University Will Allow Lampoon to Merge

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The Administration will not oppose the proposed merger of the Lampoon with Smith and Conde-Nast, publishers of Mademolselle, Vogue, and Glamour. "The College will only interfere when the Lampoon violates a College rule," according to Dean Watson.

Watson said the 'Poon could retain the Harvard name: (1) nationally, if students remained in control of all editorial policy and content or (2) locally, if the national magazine were to publish an insert under student supervision for the University community.

Although dubious that a national organization would allow college students to maintain such control, Watson appeared amused.
