1000 to Greet Rexroth At Arrival in Boston Tomorrow Afternoon

An estimated crowd of 1000 will greet poet Kenneth Rexroth when he arrives in South Station tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m., Samuel R. Blair 2G, leader of the Greater Boston Community beats, said yesterday.

The crowd--"mostly beat types"--will then carry the mustached Rexroth on their shoulders from the station to Beacon Hill's Louisburg Square, where he will read one of his revolutionary poems, Blair said. Rexroth will give a reading sponsored by the Harvard Advocate in Sanders Theater tomorrow night at 7:30.

According to Blair, 700 from the Greater Boston area, including students from B.U., B.C., and Brandeis are expected, along with approximately 300 from Cambridge. Burton A. Melnick '62, president of the Advocate, said that he also expected students demonstrating against Rexroth to be on hand.

Commenting on the poet's visit, Melnick said, "Rexroth's work is conclusive proof that genuine erudition is not incompatible with ideas of beat poetry. At this time especially, Harvard needs a visit from Kenneth Rexroth." Rexroth's last visit to Harvard was in 1948 in connection with the Morris Gray Reading Fund.
