The varsity fencing team stood ninth out of 11 teams participating in the intercollegiate fencing tournament in New York City last night, with only the sabre matches left to be played. Three Crimson players, however, had received all-Ivy honors.
First place in the tournament, now two-thirds completed, is NYU.
Lajos Heder received a berth on the sabre squad of the first All-Ivy team, while Allan Gardner was named to the epee squad. In addition, the second team included Crimson sabreman John Piel.
Although the team has only scored a total of 22 out of a possible 60 points, the sabre squad, which will compete tomorrow, is probably its strongest unit, and was responsible for much of the team's limited success during the regular season, including its last victory over Trinity.
The epee squad, led by Bill Bennett's six points, scored 14 out of the possible 30. Allan Gardner contributed five points, and Pete Piazza added the remaining three.
Jai Yuh led the foil squad's eight point contribution with his own five point tally.
Fencing tomorrow will be All-Ivy players Piel and Heder, backed up by Paul Winig.
The team's overall record for dual meet competition was seven wins and six losses, but it won only one of its five Ivy League contests.
