Crimson Hockey Downs Cadets, 5-1

By Robert E. Smith

A gallant performance by Army's goalie frustrated the varsity hockey team for most of Saturday evening, but the highflying Crimson managed to prevail, 5 to 1, over the visiting Cadets.

Ron Chisholm, a local boy from Natick, turned away shot after shot with magical saves for 22 minutes of play until Gene Kinasewich broke the ice for the Crimson. A hat trick by Chris Norris followed to secure the Crimson's fifth win in six games of the 1961-62 campaign.

Cooney Weiland's Colorado-bound team dominated play and shot almost at will for most of the game; Chisholm, however, came up with 62 saves, all of which left the attacking Crimson players wondering just what they needed to get one past the net minder.

Fancy Sophomore

Kinasewich, the fancy sophomore, found the answer at 13:10 of the second period. He gathered the puck in his defensive zone, raced down the boards on his right, charged in on Chisholm, and flicked the disc into the nets after a quick fake.

The sellout crowd at Watson Rink gave the Canadian a long standing ovation, after a solo play reminiscent of the Cleary era of Harvard hockey.

Norris, a third-line wing, followed quickly with the first of his three goals Less than a minute after Kinasewich shook Chisholm, Norris scored on a 15-foot backhander after a face-off in the Army end.

Tries Long Shot

In the third period, Jim Dwinell tried on a long shot; Dave Johnston missed on an attempt to net the rebound, but Norris scored after grabbing the loose puck. his last score came after a wild scramble close to the goal.

Dave Morse added one more for the fans near the end of the game on a play from Dave Grannis and Dwinell.

Godfrey Wood, playing in the goal for the varsity's Bob Bland, lost his shutout in the last two minutes of play. Tom Dooley, a Cambridge resident now at West Point, beat Wood at 18:48 after taking a pass near the middle from teammate Gary Johnson.
