Student Fares End For Holiday Flights

The last airlines offering students half fare travel will discontinue the plan mid-night Thursday, Dec. 14, just before the lucrative Christmas rush.

American and TWA, leaving from Boston as well as Continental, Western, and Delta, have been offering the reduced rates despite November discontinuations by most of the other leading airlines.

Spokesmen for American Airlines, the originators of the experiment three months ago, said that the company would lose money if the plan were in effect over the well-traveled holidays. Similar reasons caused Eastern Airlines to reject the plan entirely. National, Northwest, and Northeast airlines originally offered the service but discontinued it on Nov. 12, with United and Braniff following on Nov. 18.
