Soccer Team Lacks Ohiri Scoring Punch, Ties Princeton 1 to 1 in Saturday's Game

The varsity soccer team almost kissed its undefeated season good-by Saturday. An Ohiri-less squad managed to tie Princeton 1 to 1 on a goal scored late in the last period.

With six minutes remaining in the game, Crimson rightwinger Eb Klufio lifted the ball into the penalty area. Harvard fired twice, but Princeton fullbacks blocked. Finally, left-inside John Thorndike found an opening and slammed the ball into the nets.

The hustling Tigers, who came to town with a 2-2-1 fourth-place record, kept Crimson goalie John Adams busy. At 19:07 of the second quarter, a looping shot toward him coaxed Adams out of the goal. Tiger Duff Stewart put Princeton ahead 1-0 with a shot past Adams into the goal.

Harvard threatened throughout the game, but obviously lacked the scoring punch of Ohiri. Time and again the wings centered the ball in front of the goal, but Tiger fullbacks were always there to clear it.

Despite the score, the many cold weather fans were not disappointed. In the absence of Ohiri, who had to be satisfied with signing autographs from the bench, Billy Ward was the center of attraction. The versatile Jamaican thrilled the crowd as he outmaneuvered the Tigers with expert ball control and accurate passes.

Crimson In First

Saturday's stalemate still leaves the Crimson in first place. But the Tigers, who have a habit of beating Harvard, have made things tough again. Both Brown and Yale now have a chance at the title. If Harvard loses to the Bruins while Yale beats Princeton, the deciding contest will be H-Y at New Haven.

And without Ohiri, who pulled a groin muscle, the picture is grim. Although it defeated a weak Columbia team 4 to 0, the Crimson fell apart without the Nigerian star in the Williams game, and lost 3 to 2. According to coach Bruce Munro, Ohiri is out for the rest of the season, and his appearance at Yale would have to be "a pleasant surprise."
