It was a hot day at Soldiers Field yesterday as the Crimson J.V.'s rolled over a better than average eleven from Newport Naval Station, 20-6, with sophomore quarterback Bill Humenuk completing ten out of sixteen passes.
Newport challenged the Crimson with a fast, hard charging line, and Harvard linemen had their hands full most of the afternoon. Pat Young, a junior, was a particular standout, along with Tony Brown and Chip Gray.
By general consensus, it was a good day for nearly everyone. It had to be. The game with Newport was crucial in deciding changes in order on the varsity lineup. The reactions of the coaches to yesterday's win will not, of course, immediately be known--the growing attrition from the varsity may bring changes sooner than anyone thinks, maybe even today.
