John Rawls, a social and political philosopher at M.I.T., will join the Faculty next summer as professor of Philosophy.

Rawls' studies have centered on problems of justice and of social ethics. Before he joined the M.I.T. faculty in 1960, he spent a year as a visiting lecturer at Harvard.
