8 Takeaways From Harvard’s Task Force Reports
About 400 seniors from the College will participate in a nationwide survey of 50,000 graduating students this April.
The survey, to be conducted by the National Opinion Research Center, has been prompted by the impending shortage of college teachers and technical personnel. It will examine factors that influence a student's decision to undertake graduate work.
Peter H. Rossi, professor of Sociology at the University of Chicago and director of the program, explained yesterday that the country "may be losing talented young men who cannot afford to go to graduate school."
The study will find out how many students are hindered from pursuing higher studies for financial reasons and hopes to propose solutions for the problem.
Rossi stated that the survey would also try to determine the stage of their career at which students decide to do graduate work. "We may find that a number of students discover their talent during their college years," he remarked.
