Mrs. Roosevelt Here

The 1960's represent "a very dangerous period of history," Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt warned yesterday at a luncheon in Quincy House. "The fundamental trouble," she explained, "is that there is no confidence between East and West."

In an informal discussion, Mrs. Roosevelt stated that the only solution to the cold war is to remove the suspicion on both sides. An agreement in which the Soviets promise to "win the world over to Communism openly and not misrepresent the U.S." would help, she said.

The U.S. is at fault as much as Russia, she claimed. "Our own stupidity, and not just Soviet propaganda, makes the rest of the world think America is more apt to go to war than the Communists."

Too often "little things, little misunderstandings and carelessness" weaken the U.S.'s relations with other countries, Mrs. Roosevelt said. "If we are to lead people, we have got to show that we understand them," she stressed.
