Why the Junior High School? This timely topic will be discussed today and tomorrow by leading educational authorities at the Annual Harvard Summer School Conference on Educational Administration. School administrators from all over the country will meet at the Business School to discuss various aspects of Junior High School education.

Neil H. McElroy '25 will be the keynote speaker tonight at the general session of the Conference. The former Secretary of Defense will speak in Sanders Theatre on "Education: Our Ultimate Weapon" at 8:15 p.m. This session is open to all Summer School students and will be televised locally on Channel 2.

The five discussion sessions of the Conference will begin this afternoon at 2:15 p.m. in Baker 100, located at the Business School. "The Junior High School in Transition" will be debated by Matthew P. Gaffney, former superintendent of New Trier High School, Winnetka, III, Sidney P. Marland, Jr., superintendent of schools, Winnetka, and William T. Grubn, professor of Education at the University of Connecticut.

Two notable educators will address the Conference tomorrow morning. At 9:15, Lawrence G. Derthick, U.S. Commissioner of Education, will be guest speaker. Laurence D. Haskew of the University of Texas will speak at 11:10. Both sessions will be held in Baker 100.

The conference will conclude tomorrow afternoon at 1:15 p.m. in Baker 100. Paul J. Misner, leader of the 1960 Harvard Graduate School of Education Advanced Administrative Institute, will discuss "Now for Action."

In addition to the planned sessions of the conference, numerous social events and discussion meetings have been planned for the delegates. These less formal meetings will permit debate on topics presented at the formal sessions.

Summer School students may attend any of the sessions of the conference by showing their privilege card at the door.

The conference on Educational Administration is the first of two national conference to be held here this summer. A conference on the coordination of American cultural activities in training and education abroad will be held August 1-3.

Former Ambassador Robert H. Thayer will join the meeting, chaired by William Y. Elliott, Leroy B. Williams Professor of Political Science.
