African Programs

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Two programs calling for University undergraduates to work in Africa have been proposed in the last several weeks. The programs, whose goals overlap slightly, have frequently been confused by students interested in joining.

One, the Harvard "youth corps," would send 12 to 25 seniors to teach in Nigeria soon after their graduation. Proposed by a Faculty committee, it would last for two years, and probably allow deferment--but no official exemption--from the draft.

The other, "Project Tanganyika," would send about 20 Harvard undergraduates to Tanganyika for at least one summer. Sponsored by PBH, it would have no official connection with the "youth corps."
