Man Who Managed Clients for High-End Cambridge Brothel Network Pleads Guilty
The Crimson played 60 minutes of rugged hockey last night and defeated Northeastern, 5 to 3, at Watson Rink. The varsity fell behind, 1 to 0, for less than a minute midway in the first period and then held on to at least a one-goal margin after 7:03 in the second period.
Dave Morse led the Crimson attack with two goals, and Tim Taylor, Jim Dwinell, and Tom Heintzman contributed one each. The only problem for Cooney Weiland's sextet in beating its toughest challenger in Greater Boston was the loss of junior wing Bill Beckett early in the game.
Beckett broke his wrist late in the first period and will be out of action for six weeks. The injury came after Beckett set up Morse's tying goal at 8:01. He skated onto the boards and flipped a slow pass to Morse, who was at the edge of the crease directly in front of Northeastern goalie John Bishop. Morse casually slipped the puck into the nets.
Huskies Go Ahead
The hustling Huskies had gone ahead 31 seconds earlier when their ace, Art Chisholm, lifted the disc over to linemate Gerry Cronin, who slammed the goal home from ten feet out. Chisholm, Northeastern's captain and a noted scorer, was a menace all night but didn't score. The ubiquitous Chisholm played almost every minute of the game but never combined enough with his teammates to outplay the Crimson.
With the score tied 1-all, the Crimson dominated the rest of the period as Morse and Dave Grannis teamed up for several shots that Bishop blocked each time. In the second period Weiland put Jim Dwinell a center who was tried at defense last night, back into the line, where he teamed with Morse and Grannis in Beckett's place.
The Dwinell-Morse combination, a big scorer last season, paid off at 7:03 with the tie-breaker. Morse, bearing down on Bishop, took the rebound from a Dwinell shot, drew Bishop off his feet, and slipped the puck over the goalie.
Less than a minute later Taylor belted a five-footer home with assists from captain Stew Forbes and defenseman Harry Howell.
Northeastern rallied to within one goal when penalties left the Crimson with only three men during two minutes of the second period. With Dean Alpine and Morse in the coop simultaneously, the Huskies scored on Cronin's slap shot.
A 3-on-1 play that failed for the Crimson and several near misses preceded the varsity's fourth tally, which came after one minute of the last period. Dwinell shot from a zero-degree angle and bounced the puck off the goalie's stick into the cage. It 8:13, when Northeastern's Phil Johnston went out for charging, the Crimson scored again as Ted Ingalls, Alpine, and Heintzman, who receive credit for the score, pounded Bishop with repeated short shots.
The Huskies, undefeated previously in three games, showed signs of a rally at the 12-minute mark, as two Crimson penalties put the varsity down to three players. Grannis, Bob Anderson, and Dave Johnston (whose fired-up play was instrumental in the victory), killed the penalty time for a minute, but Weisbach, with help from Chisholm, scored on a 20-foot shot past goalie Bob Bland.
