Track Team Favored Over M.I.T. Today

The varsity track team will open its season against M.I.T. tonight at 6:45 p.m. in Briggs Cage. Quite possibly, the varsity could hold the Engineers to less than 10 points, but coach Bill McCurdy has decided to experiment, with an eye to a more testing encounter with B.U. on Friday.

Thus, the Crimson may collect only 80 or so of the 104 points available tonight. In only one event are both coaches going with their first-liners--the hurdles, where the Crimson's versatile Tom Biodgett will face M.I.T.'s talented Ralph Davis in the best race of the evening.

Engineer co-captain Don Morrison could pose a threat in the broad jump, the pole vault, and the dash. The other Tech co-captain, Jim Withbroe, might capture the 600, since McCurdy may choose to go with distance men Mark Mullin, Bob Knapp, and Ed Hamlin.

The mile should be another wide-open event. McCurdy plans to send middledistance runners Don Kirkland, Gus Schumacher, Harry Rich, And Dave Nawi against bona fide millers from M.I.T.
