Throughout the frost-biting season, the varsity sailing team has been constantly runner-up to victory, but has emerged with honors only twice.  This weekend however, the Crimson skippers are favored to win the Northeastern collegiate Sloop Championship and perhaps a little bit more.  Ford, runner-up in the L.I. Raven championships this summer, will pilot  hopes for the Lt. Lawrence A. White Trophy, symbol of the championship,  five others schools, in a two day series at New London.  In the eliminations  weeks ago, Ford literally salled away with everything, his 34-ft. Raven winning  by a large margin.  victory then was due in large part  flawless spinnaker work of  Horn, John Kimbell, and George  who will be at the lines today and .  Although second or third boat  windward mark, the varsity swept  the fleet on the downwind leg six  and then hung on to its lead for  victory.  the stronger November winds, since  Crimson sailors will have enough to  hanging on to the boat, they will   not sweep the series.  The University of Rhode-Island, a dark horse  also scored heavily in the  and will probably be the boat  in the run for the silver.  surviving the eliminations were  Northeastern, and the Coast Guard and boat, which, though not outstand  will have the advantage of sailing in  waters.  another regatta this weekend, skip  Tom Munnell and John Marshall  take to the water against twelve  schools for the Schell Trophy at .
