For the past week inquiring reporters have been able to get any story about Crimson quarterback Charlie Ravenel that suited their fancy--that he would play against Princeton, that he was through for the season, and everything in between.
Team doctors therefore issued an official statement yesterday. It said, "The progress of the injury has been normal and satisfactory, but not as rapid as originally estimated. There will be no operation necessary.
"Ravenel will not be able to play against Princeton this Saturday. It is anticipated that he will return to full participation before the end of the season."
The doctors did not specify whether Ravenel would return a week from Saturday against Brown or Nov. 19, against Yale. The quarterback suffered sprained ligaments in his right knee in the varsity's 27-12 loss to UMass Oct. 1.
