The 170 undergraduate solicitors for the annual Combined Charities Drive Harvard President Pusey outline the joys travails of raising funds at a dinner in Quincy House last night.

Speaking as "possibly the world's money raiser," the President pointed at the "joys" of soliciting funds for worthwhile causes. As the richest university in the world, Harvard attracts great for anything it does, including drives, Pusey noted.

Howard J. Phillips '62, President of the student Council and co-chairman of last years' drive, called the $22,500 goal "realizable and proper." Along with this year's co-chairmen, Michael H. P. Belknap '63 and Thomas C. Jones, Jr. '63, Phillips emphasized the importance of the first evening in making the drive a success.

The Combined Charities Drive will run through Friday evening. Six charities, including a Combined Charities Scholarship, have been recommended and 28 have been suggested. The co-chairmen of the drive hope for an average personal donation of $10 and 100 per cent participation.

The Student Council's Combined Charities Drive had its "best first night in history" yesterday as solicitors received pledges for approximately $5,300.

With about 60 per cent of the student body contacted, Thomas C. Jones '63, co-chairman of the drive, called the first evening's showing a "good start" but added that the drive is still far from its $22,500 goal.

Leverett House was the leading contributor in partial totals with over $900 already credited to its donors.
