"And we find the wisest thing ... is to slap our chests and sing," vocalizes JOHN T. PARKER '62 in his role as sergeant of police in "Pirates of Penzance," the Gilbert and Sullivan Players' production that opened last night at the Loeb. Behind Parker, the police corps marches in to the rhythm of the song "When the Forman Bares His Steel."
Beneath all the tramping and singing, two violinists get a quick chuckle from the proceedings. They will join the troupe of actors again tonight through Sunday and next weekend, when the play completes its run.
The Gilbert and Sullivan production will share the musical spotlight tonight with a joint concert by the Harvard and Yale Glee Clubs at Sanders Theatre. This performance will continue the series of annual fall football concerts begun by the two groups in 1899, and will also mark the centennial of the Yale Glee Club.
