Crimson Junior Varsity Falls to Army's Rushing Offensive; 26-12

The Army junior varsity exploded for three touchdowns in the final quarter to down the Crimson scrubs, 26-12, at West Point Friday.

After battling the Cadets to a 6-6 deadlock for three periods, the JV line folded before a relentless ground attack that tallied three times in a little more than half the quarter to insure victory for the home team.

After a scoreless first quarter that saw the Crimson battling to get the ball out of its own territory, Army started a sustained 85-yard march that ended with halfback Bob Schultz slamming over from the nine yard line. The kick failed, and Army led 6-0.

The Harvard JV's tied the score later in the second quarter as Hank Hatch raced 40 yards from scrimmage to cap a 60 yard drive. The Crimson also failed to convert after their touchdown, and the halftime score stood at 6-6.

The third quarter was primarily a ground battle between the 30 yard stripes, but at the beginning of the final period the Cadets' dormant offense came alive. The Black Knights went 85 yards to score, with Wayne Williams passing to Bill Perdew from nine yards out. The conversion again failed.

After a 70 yard Crimson march sputtered on the Army 22, the West Pointers put the game virtually on ice as half-back Bill Clark raced 78 yards through the entire Harvard team to score. Several tacklers had good shots at him, but Clark shook them off with some brilliant broken field running.

A final Crimson touchdown on a two yard plunge by Bill Taylor finished the scoring after Army had tallied a third time in the quarter on a 10 yard run by Ron Beckett.

Junior fullback Gil Bamford was the brightest spot in an otherwise dismal afternoon for the junior varsity by racking up 82 yards in 15 rushing attempts.

Yardlings Top UConn, 15-6

The freshman football team led throughout the game and defeated the University of Connecticut freshmen, 15-6, at Harvard Stadium on Friday.

Scott Harshberger capped a 72 yard march in the opening period by plunging over from the one yard line for the Crimson's first score. Bill Humenuk's third quarter six-yard pass to Bob Stringer accounted for the other touchdown. Tom Stephenson was the standout for the Yardlings.
