Pusey Names 21 Faculty 'Fellows' To Expand House Intellectual Life

President Pusey yesterday announced the appointment of 21 senior Faculty members as Fellows of the Houses. Each Fellow, previously associated with the House, will have special responsibilities determined by his own interests and those of the Master for expanding the intellectual life of the House.

"The Fellow of the House," Pusey commented, "is a new office designed to strengthen the House by bringing into the management of its affairs the direct interest and insights of a number of men from many departments."

"As work of the Houses grows..., the Masters have a great need for help from a smaller group of close colleagues. It is also important that the Faculty as a whole should maintain close and lively connection with House life."

Neither the length of service as a Fellow nor the number of Fellows in each House in definite; additional Fellows will be appointed later.

The Fellows are: Adams: Raphael Demos, Carroll M. Williams, Arthur E. Sutherland; Dunster: Arthur N. Holcombe, Philippe E. LeCorbeiller; Eliot: Alexander Gerschenkron, Willard V. O. Quine, Kenneth V. Thimann; Kirkland: William Alfred, Carl Kaysen, Alwin M. Pappenheimer, Jr.; Leverett: Albert J. Guerard, Oscar Handlin, Norman F. Ramsey.

Also, Lowell: Myron P. Gilmore, John V. Kelleher, B. J. Whiting; Quincy: Henry A. Kissinger, David Reisman; Winthrop: Frank B. Friedel, Jr., John C. Wells.
