A former Nigerian olympic soccer player and last year's New England high school cross-country champion were selected captains of their respective freshman teams yesterday.
Christian L. O'Hiri, who scored two goals as a center forward for Nigeria at Rome last summer, was captain of his team at Holy Ghost College in Oweiri, Nigeria. He was also captain for three years of the town team in Oweiri.
O'Hiri represented Nigeria in the hop, top and jump in a meet against the United States last year, and also runs the 100 yard dash and the 120 yard high hurdles. He intends to try out for the Crimson track team this spring.
Cross-country captain Edward Meehan won the New England title last year running for Oliver Ames High School in Easton, Mass. He was captain of his high school track team.
