The Crimson freshman football team failed its first real test Saturday, losing to Brown, 14 to 7.
Down 6 to 0 with two and one-half minutes left in the game, the Crimson rallied with a 33-yard pass from quarter-back Bill Humenuk to halfback Pote Wood and a conversion to take the lead, 7 to 6.
The game was in the bag for only a short time, however, the Bruins' quarterback John Erickson, with one eye on the clock, took to the air after the Crimson kickoff. Desparately going for the long one on the Crimson 40- yard line, Erickson hit halfback Tom Draper on third down, and Draper ran the remaining distance for the backbreaking TD. Draper ran for the two extra points, upping the score to 14-7.
The loss gives the Yardlings a 1-1 record to date. On Oct. 8, in its opening game, coach Heary Lamar's eleves easily overcame Tufts, 23 to 0.
Humenuk and Mike Bassett have been sharing the quarterbacking duties for the Crimson and have received praise from both Lamar, and from observers.
Another formidable hurdle swatts the Yardlings this Friday, when they face Dartmouth here. A win could put the eleven in the money; a loss could make the season more and more like the varsity's.
