Band, New York Teenagers Stage Melee After Triumph

Some of the neighborhood children broke up the Harvard Band's victory block Saturday after the Columbia game, and the resulting battle was one of the best in years. The wild skirmish lasted only three or four minutes, but produced a large variety of injuries and indignities.

Members of the Band reported that teen-age children began running through the lines of musicians, and that one young hoodlum belted a Bandsman to touch off the melee. A cymbalist used his instruments as effective and bloody weapons, and one musician broke his drum stick over a near-by head.

Four of the attackers attempted to carry off a small Band member, but the husky prop crew intervened. One musician used a baritone sax with good results, and an ex-Marine in the Band's ranks reportedly gave the street brawlers a lesson in their craft.
