North Carolina's Governor Luther H. Hodges will deliver a talk on integration tonight before the Law School Forum.
Hodges is considered a moderate on the racial issue. Under his guidance, North Carolina has achieved a degree of token integration without the violence and bitterness which has marked desegregation in other Southern states. While stressing his personal disapproval of integration, the Governor has initiated integration legislation in the State Legislature in order to comply with Supreme Court decisions.
The North Carolina executive is known to have Vice-Presidential ambitions, and might gain convention support should the top spot go to a Northern liberal.
Besides his activities in the racial area, Hodges has sponsored an extensive program to increase industrialization in the state. His efforts have brought several new industries to North Carolina.
The address will be held at Sanders Theater, beginning at 8 p.m. A question period will follow the talk.
