Reports from the football practice fields and whirlpool baths yesterday indicated that, while many of the Crimson players injured in pre-season practice and in the UMass contest may not be ready to face Bucknell Saturday, most of them will be in shape for the important Cornell game two weeks away.
Captain and end Hank Keohane, who sustained a painful shoulder bruise in the Massachusetts encounter, is out for a week and probably will not play against Bucknell. He should be able to face the Big Red, as should sophomore tackle Darwin Wile, currently limping with a sprained ankle.
Sam Halaby, a fullback, afflicted with a knee injury that prevents quick stops and turns, will probably sit out the Bucknell encounter in order to be healthy for the Cornell game, the varsity's first Ivy League test. Halfback Roy Williams is out of action for 12 days with pulled ligaments in his left knee; he, too, should be back for Cornell.
Senior tackle Bob Pillsbury, who missed the UMass contest with a severely sprained ankle, will see limited action against Bucknell. Bill Swinford, a guard, suffered a concussion in the opener, but should be ready for full duty Saturday.
After recovering from a chain of pre-season ailments, tackle Harlan Noel returned to practice yesterday, only to receive another injury. His status is in doubt.
A serious blow to the Crimson was the loss of Ken Brown, a member of the already depleted tackle corps, for possibly the rest of the season. Brown sustained torn knee ligaments against UMass.
