Seniors Hold Class Day In Yard This Morning

The Class of 1959 gathers for the traditional farewell this morning in Class Day Exercises in Sever Quadrangle. Led by First Class Marshal Marc E. Leland and by the Harvard Band, Seniors will march in the Yard to the ceremonies, which commence at 10:30.

Paul W. Schwartz will deliver the Class Oration, and the Class Poem will be offered by Arthur Freeman. Then Senior Gregory M. Harvey will read the Ivy Oration, the traditional humorous piece by the graduating class.

Dean Monro will make the annual presentation of the Ames Awards, for selfreliance, character, and leadership, which were won this year by Paul E. Freehling of Kirkland House and Cicero, Ill., and Richard E. Rubenstein, of Adams House and Woodmere, N.Y.

Also during the exercises in the Yard, John R. McGinley '31, 1958-59 President of the Associated Harvard Clubs, will welcome the seniors into the alumni ranks. After a speech by Dean Bundy, Class Colors will be presented to Freshman class representatives.

119 to Be Commissioned

At noon in the Sever Quadrangle, 119 seniors in the ROTC programs will receive commission into the Armed Forces. The Navy will commission 41 members of the Clases of 1959 as ensigns; the army 51 as second lieutenants; the Air Force 12; and the Marine Corps 15.

Capt. Richard T. Spofford, professor of Naval Sciences, will welcome the assembled guests, and Col. DeVere Armstrong, professor of Military Science and Tactics, will administer the oath of office at the joint ceremonies. The main speaker will be Rear Admiral F.B. Warder, Commander, Submarine Force, Atlantic Fleet.
