Council 'Booklift' May Reach 2000

The Student Council-sponsored "Operation Booklift" expects to collect "several thousand" books of all kinds for use in Nigeria and Pakistan, according to co-chairman Eugene H. Zagat, Jr. '61 announced yesterday.

For the first time, the drive this year has been highly organized with entry solicitors in each House and Hall. Last years' booklift collected only 500 volumes.

Zagat, who is co-ordinating the drive along with Patricia Gerald '61 of the Radcliffe Student Government Association and Larry P. Ekpebu '60 of the International Activities Committee, pointed out that students in the two countries selected need text books and general works of all kinds. These books often are no longer needed by their owners here but are invaluable to those who will receive them, he noted.

All books collected will be distributed by the World University Service. The three week drive is scheduled to end on June 3. A preliminary total will be announced on Wednesday.
