Crimson Swim Team Crippled by Injuries In IC4A Nationals

Beset by accidents, the Crimson swimming team scored only three points in the National championship finals at Ithaca, N.Y. "It was a Big Ten tournament," Coach Bill Brooks said, "and none of the Eastern teams did very well."

Bruce Hunter qualified for second place in the preliminaries and finished fifth in the finals of the 50 yard free-style. His time in each race was 22.5 seconds. But on the last lap of the finals he locked and overextended his arm, and badly sprained it, hitting the side of the pool. This put him out of the rest of the championships.

In spite of medical problems which have troubled him all year, John Hammond placed sixth in the finals of the 100 yard butterfly, swimming it in 56.1 seconds.
