At least 75, and possibly 100, students will work as faculty-aides next year if the Student Employment Office fulfills its current plans. The new program represents a twofold enlargement of this year's activities.
The Committee on Scholarships and Financial Aids has already approved the new increase, and the Employment Office is preparing letters to send to the Faculty.
Now set at approximately $400 per year for 10-12 working hours a week, faculty-aide salaries will probably not rise next year. The Committee had considered either paying all employees $500 per year, or devising a split salary schedule which would provide more for "needy" students than "non-needy" students, but decided to make no changes.
This year's program started by accident. In the spring of 1958 the Office sent letters to Department heads, asking their opinions about student aides. Enough Departments responded with requests for employees to warrant beginning the program this year.
The Office is now placing students for all of next year's University jobs, and interested students are asked to come to Weld Hall.
