Lacrosse Squad Loses Initial Ivy Match to Cornell

The varsity lacrosse team suffered its first regular season loss, 16 to 6, at the hands of Cornell in Ithaca Saturday. After falling behind 12 to 2 at the half, the Crimson managed to hold the Big Red even throughout the third and fourth periods.

Playing as well as it did against Holy Cross Wednesday, the varsity was simply not fast enough to thwart Cornell's offensive drives.

Dave Bohn's stiff neck deprived the Crimson of a few goals they might otherwise have received. Bohn, high scorer on the varsity, was unable to make backhand shots or turn his head quickly to see the ball.

At 6:12 of the first period, Bohn scored his only goal of the afternoon, assisted by Nick Lamont. In the second period, Bill Parks tallied unassisted. Charlie Devens, Dave Birch, and Jerry Pyle--who sank two--accounted for the four second-half goals.

It was Cornell's outstanding midfielder, Pfann who led the Big Red attack all afternon. The three goals he scored are only a slight indication of the amount he plagued the Crimson defense throughout the game.

However, the loss was not as depressing as the score might indicate. After the game, Munro noted that the Crimson attack, which stresses teamwork, should improve sharply as the season progresses. He added that "this year we are building strong foundations for the future of Harvard lacrosse."
