Social Progressives Sponsor Freshman For Student Council

May Day is the red-letter day for the newly-formed Social Progressive Party, a group of eight undergraduates who disapprove of the Harvard Socialist Club on the grounds that it "only discusses matters which should have been decided by its very name," Gerald P. Burns '62, a spokesman for the Party said yesterday.

Burns is running for the Student Council on a Socialist ticket with full support of the Social Progressive Party. The Student Council rules prohibit any student running with the backing of an organization. "I expect to be disqualified by this rule," he added. "We are making a test case out of it, as we feel it is unfair that only independents are allowed to run," he explained.

May 1 is the final polling date, and the Party will recognize the occasion by flying their flag, a red background with a white arrow pointing left, from a freshman dormitory. They declined to name the building.
