LINING THEM UP

Experience and practice under pressure should be the most important products of the freshman gridders' contest with Tufts tomorrow, Henry Lamar, freshman coach, said last night.

As yet untried in intermural competition after ten days of practice, the starting freshman team will enter the game reinforced by a strong bench of at least 90 squad members. "Within two weeks," said Coach Lamar, "it has been necessary to try all these boys and to give each individual consideration." At the same time, a tentative team had to be shaped for the first official contest, Lamar added.

Only after the game with Tufts, the coach indicated, would he be able to evaluate his team as a playing unit.

Two-Contest Veterans

In the Tufts squad, the Harvard Yardlings face opponents who have had more playing experience. Tufts freshmen have already weathered two contests, losing one to the Andover varsity.

The probable starting linemen for Harvard will be Bob Boyda and Bob Mautz, ends; Mike Sheridan and Darwin Wilde, tackles; Tom Gaston and Bill Swinford, guards; Tony Watters, center.

A tentative backfield roster, Lamar indicated, would include either Grady Watts or Jim Ullyot as quarterback; Roy Williams left halfback; John Damis right halfback; and Gil Damford fullback.

New Talent Possible

The freshman coach emphasized that his selections for the opening game were based only on observations of boys who had most quickly "become familiar with the system" which Harvard uses in training its varsity material.

There is a possibility that hidden talent may come to light in later scrimmages and games, he indicated.

Though the squad may be tentative, the team now features two brothers of former Harvard athletes: Damis, whose brother was a varsity halfback two years ago, and Ullyot, brother of Dan Ullyot '58, a hockey star.

The Yardlings' first game will be played at 12 p.m. tomorrow afternoon on the freshman grid at Soldiers Field.
