Harvard Still On Track To Reach Fossil Fuel-Neutral Status by 2026, Sustainability Report Finds
The varsity baseball team will make a second attempt at opening its home season this afternoon at 3 p.m. on Soldiers Field against Tufts. The Crimson was frustrated in its first go, being rained out of last Friday's scheduled contest with M.I.T.
Harvard's baseball followers no doubt remember last year's unfortunate opener against this same Tufts team. That contest was called at the end of 12 innings because of darkness, and went into the record books as a 2-2 tie. The Crimson's play was very sloppy, and there was little suspicion that the varsity would go on to win the Eastern Inter-collegiate baseball league title for the first time in Harvard baseball history.
The Crimson will have portions of other athletic squads at most starting positions. Backfield men from John Yovicsin's eleven, Charlie Ravenel, Chet Boulris and Charlie Leamy, will be at left field, third base and center field, while basketball standout George Harrington will start at second base, squash player John Davis will be behind the plate, and hockey defenseman Mo Balboni will probably start in right field.
Sophomore Al Martin, who batted 400 on the Crimson's successful Southern trip, will be at first base, veteran Levon "Mouse" Kasarjian will start at shortstop for the second straight year, and Byron Johnson is coach Norm Shepard's choice as starting pitcher.
