Sailors Triumph At M.I.T. Regatta

Leading a field of seven schools until the final mark of the last race, the Varsity sailing team fouled and had to settle for a second place tie in the Boston University Invitational Regatta at M.I.T. yesterday. The host school retained possession of the Lucian Sharpe Memorial Trophy.

Hanson Robbins sailed his 12-foot Tech Dingy to high scoring honors, while Bill Saltonstall skippered the other Crimson boat. Trailing B.U. (87 points) were Harvard (81), Brown (81), M.I.T. (78), Bowdoin (63), Yale (51), and Tufts (45).

In another meet Saturday, the Crimson sailors made a weak showing by placing last in the 24th Annual Brown University Spring Regatta at Providence. M.I.T. copped the championship, with B.U. taking second place in the contest.

Carlos Rodriguez managed to salvage dashed Crimson hopes by placing third in individual point scoring in his division. All the teams were hampered, however, by very light winds, which at times almost turned the contest into a drifting match.

Led by high-scorer Tom Munnell, two Freshman boats sailed away with first place in a seven-school regatta at M.I.T. Saturday. Once again, the crews had to contend with the light airs and unstable conditions that often prevail on the Charles.

Yesterday's performance indicates that the Crimson has an excellent change of retaining possession of the Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup at the 29th Annual Spring Intersectional Regatta at M.I.T. next weekend.
