A forensic encounter with Cambridge University, postponed last month due to failure of the transatlantic cable, will take place on either April 23 or 30.
Rumors attributed the failure to sabotage by Russian fishing vessels. However, Navy investigators uncovered nothing but fishing equipment and a Soviet protest when they boarded the trawlers.
Although events causing the postponement of the debate would seem to constitute an unfavorable disadvantage for the affirmative team, the Cambridge debaters will still defend the original topic--"Resolved: That this house thanks God for the Atlantic."
"Since the debate was going to be humorous anyway, this disadvantage was actually a windfall," James D. Lorentz, Jr. '60, Chairman of the Debate Council, commented. "Now that we really have something to joke about, this should prove a truly absurd evening."
