The varsity fencing team finished eighth out of eleven schools in the Eastern Intercollegiate Fencing Championship last Friday and Saturday with an overall record of 32 wins and 58 losses. The contest was held at the Hotel Concourse Plaza in New York.

New York University won the tournament with a 69-21. record, also taking first place in foil and sabre competition. Navy and Columbia placed second and third in the championships, with Navy ranking highest in epee.

Manuel Cabral and Mike Woolf each won three and lost seven sabre contests on Saturday, while Jon Piel won two and lost eight. On Friday the varsity compiled 13-17 and 12-18 records in epee and foil respectively.

Although the varsity finished in eighth place after the second and third rounds, they were tied with Cornell and Pennsylvania for fifth after the first round on Friday. In addition, the team beat Columbia, who placed third in the tournament, in all three weapons.
