Crimson Rifle Squad Outshoots Weak Tufts

In what was termed by high-scoring Dick Murphy "probably the easiest match we've had all season," the rifle team outshot Tufts, 1406 to 1332, for their sixth Greater Boston Rifle League victory in nine starts.

Scoring 289 out of a possible 300, Murphy matched the earlier totals of his teammates Ron Simon and John Phelps for the highest individual scores this year and just missed the University record of 291.

Receiving all of the 100 possible points in the prone and kneeling positions, Murphy became "a little nervous" at the possibility of breaking the record, and missed 11 points in the offhand position.

Second for the team was Simon with 288. Also scoring were Will Garrison, 279, Phelps, 277, and John North, 273. Bill Granik and Shaun Scanlon also shot for the team, but only the top five scores are counted.

After the meet, the team elected officers for next year. Phelps was named president. Murphy captain, and Scanlon manager. Bob Mitchell will be assistant manager.
