Crimson Squash Team Wins, 8-1

With the efficiency and dispatch which has always characterized the varsity in such affairs, the Crimson squash team defeated a stubborn but outmanned Amherst squad, 8 to 1, yesterday at Hemenway Gymnasium.

Led by the fine play of captain Charlie Hamm, the Crimson was never in trouble throughout the afternoon. Hamm had about the easiest match of the day as he disposed of the Lord Jeffs' number one man, 15-10, 15-9 and 15-10. The power and consistency of Hamm's shots kept his opponent in constant trouble, and the Crimson captain ran out the match with little difficulty.

At second singles, Gerry Emmet dropped the varsity's only match of the day in five games. As the contest began, it appeared as though Emmet's deft shot-making would soon bring the matter to a close. With very little effort he ran off to a 2-0 lead with a 15-12 and 15-9 advantage in the first two games but then let up, and Amherst's Skip Voncks was just able to edge into victory, 17-16, 15-11 and 17-16 in the last three games.

Below Emmet, only two Crimson players experienced any difficulty in winning. At fifth singles, Vinton was extended to the five-game limit, winning the final game handily, 15 to 6, and at seventh singles sophomore Tony Lake had to go to the last point before winning, 17 to 16, in the fifth game.

Tim Gallwey won at third singles, 15-10, 9-15, 15-11, 17-15; Pete Lund topped Amherst captain Tony Hazen, 15-11, 15-7, 15-11, in the fourth position, and John Davis, Charlie Poletti and Wally Stimpson, at sixth, eighth and ninth singles respectively, all won 3-0 matches.

The Yardling squad experienced only a bit more difficulty in downing the Amherst freshmen, 7 to 2.
