In its premiere last night, the newly elected and enlarged Student Council postponed debate on specific issues and considered its "overall activities." President Edward L. Croman '60 told members in an optimistic letter of introduction that the Council is not only enlarged, but "transformed."
Andrew L. Warshaw '59, emphasizing that "Council reports comprise 50 percent of our activities," claimed that such reports have "a phenomenal influence within the Administration, even if they are not widely read by the students." The Council report on tutorial, he said, was "responsible for the continuation of non-Honors tutorial."
To better its "communications with the students," Croman hinted that the Council may publish a second periodical, perhaps called Your Council, to supplement the Quarterly. "Prestige-wise," he noted, "this may do us enormous good."
Croman proposed that the Council take a serious second look at its fund raising efforts. "In the past, we have fleeced the freshmen by suggesting that the 'average contribution' was five dollars," he explained, "and when they discover the truth, they are indoctrinated with a bitterness toward the Council." He called for a study of "more equitable" means of financing the Council's activities.
