Radcliffe Exhibits 'Best-Dressed Girl'

Priscilla Bowden '61 of Bertram Hall was selected the best-dressed girl at Radcliffe last night. Thirteen candidates modeled in the fashion show contest sponsored by Percussion.

Three pictures of Miss Bowden in an on-campus outfit, a daytime off-campus outfit, and a date dress will be submitted by Percussion to Glamour magazine's competition for the 10 best-dressed college girls in America.

Marianne Williams '62 of Holmes Hall and Christina Wilhelm '62, from Moors, were chosen as runners-up to Miss Bowden by the judges, who commented, "we'd love to select everyone."

Moors Hall earlier had refused to participate in the contest, but Miss Wilhelm described herself as "a rebel rebelling against a rebellious dorm." Girls from Moors and Barnard had branded the contest "un-Radcliffe" and "immoral." Merelice A. Kundratis '62, another Moors Hall candidate, explained that "the contest may be un-Radcliffe, but it's not un-feminine."

"It's is not that Barnard Hall girls don't like to dress well, it's just that they like to be well-dressed without the competitive spirit entering into it," according to Barnard's contestant, Jane St. Leger '60.

Only two dorms, Cabot and Holmes, expressed approval of the contest from the beginning.
