The Harvard Dramatic Club has secured a "professionally qualified" director, Miss Cary Clasz, for its spring production of Fry's The Lady's Not For Burning, Joel F. Henning '61, president, announced yesterday.
"In the past," Henning noted, "some actors have complained that they gained nothing from working under a director who didn't know any more than they did." He asserted that a director such as Miss Clasz will impart qualities to the whole cast which they can then bring to other productions.
Readings for The Lady's Not For Burning will be held at the beginning of next week, with opening night on April 16. Miss Clasz is "very excited" about doing this play, Henning said. Currently on the faculty at Wellesley, she holds a doctorate in drama from Yale and has directed in summer stock for six years.
Henning also reported that the HDC has been reorganized to carry out its enlarged spring candidate program. Each member of the Executive Committee will now be responsible for supervising one of the "dramatic crafts," including acting, both in the workshops and in special lab-type training sessions.
"There has never been an adequate supply of people trained in the technical aspects of drama, such as lighting, carpentry, design, makeup, and publicity," Henning claimed. "We hope that people who have not previously been involved with drama at Harvard will come out for this program."
