Crimson Five to Meet Brandeis In Non-League Game at Waltham

The varsity quintet will have to overcome its usual letdown against non-League opponents when it faces a pretty good Brandeis team tonight at 8:15 p.m. in Waltham. Under the youngest coach in the country, 23-year-old Rudy Finderson, the Judges have amassed a 7-7 record and will be looking to go above the .500 mark.

Finderson was himself the best basketball player in Brandeis' young history, and in his first season as coach he has built a team out of a largely inexperienced group. An outstanding sophomore center and pivot man, Larry McNulty, is the key man in the Judges' attack. He stands 6 ft., 4 in., and is currently averaging 15.8 points a game.

In the forecourt, Finderson will use Bob Peretti, a 6 ft., 3 in. junior, who is hitting for 13.7 a game, and either Jerry Schwartz or Mickey Kirsh. In the backcourt will be two of the following three: Bunky Good, Don McGuillicuddy, or Dave Walker.

The only common opponents of both Brandeis and the Crimson are Boston College and Tufts. Both squads lost to the Eagles by 14 points, but whereas Brandeis downed Tufts. 72 to 68, the Crimson won, 60 to 54. Judging then by comparative scores--a consistently inaccurate method anyway--the two teams are so evenly matched that any prediction on this basis would be invalid.

Currently in the depths of a three game losing streak, the varsity would like nothing better than to sharpen up for this weekend's important contests with Princeton and Penn by winning.

Especially encouraging would be a solid point output by Griff McClellan, who did a fine job defensively Saturday night in holding Brown's high scoring A1 Poulsen to one basket. McClellan himself produced only one point, however, and can certainly improve in this department.

Bob Bowditch has recovered from his recent illness and will probably return to the starting lineup, joining Bob Repette at forward. At the guards will be George Harrington and Mike Donohue.

Coach Wilson experimented for a while Saturday night with Dave Grayer joining the latter four while McClellan rests, and such an idea might be feasible tonight, as Brandeis has no man over 6 ft., 4 in.
